Google Chicago opened its West Loop headquarters in 2015 and wanted to establish a connection with its Chicago employees in an authentic way. Banner was tasked with creating concepts for the 42-screen installation in the Google Lobby ranging from a video game version of Chicago to a living street art mural.
The overall video installation totalled 40 feet and over 87 million pixels per frame. Hundreds of Google employees pass through the lobby each day so we prioritized hiding easter eggs in each video so that viewers could see something new every time they passed by. Upon each project’s completion, the massive composition had to be rendered out into 42 individual HD screens. It was a laborious process but we’ve always considered it a labor of love.
